UPS Topology
How to choose the right UPS?
Main criteria:
a.) UPS Topology (VFD, VI, VFI), modulated or sinus wave output in battery mode (please read above)
b.) Required power capacity in Watt
c.) Autonomy time
d.) Size and model type (i.e. rack mountable? Limited space?)
e.) Outlets (IEC, Schutzkontakt, French, Terminal)

Load and Backup:
To determine appropriate UPS power requirement consider the below.
- Sum the maximum power consumption of all loads
- Consider in-rush currents
- Consider characteristic of the load (inductive vs capacitve)
- Calculate efficiency drop of your loads if modulated wave output
- Consider safety margin

Other parameters to analyze:
- extension cards for additional communication SNMP, Modbus, AS400
- selecting appropriate battery pack for expected autonomy time
- Human Interface Device USB protocol

VFI Series: Online UPS

A Online UPS always provide clean power and have a protection against all standard power problems in a network.

A Online UPS is build up with double- conversation technology. First, incoming AC power is converted into DC power and stored in a buffer. In the second step the buffered DC power is converted to AC power and made available for the loads. Doing so the UPS loads are isolated from incoming AC power (and all its problems) and fed by power generated by the UPS. The result is an always clean and stable output power.

Another advantage of this technology is the fact that there is no transfer time in case of a failure. Furthermore a Online UPS provides the most reliable voltage regulation which is typically within 2-3 percent of the standard voltage wave form. Online UPS offers USB port (RS-232) to connect to a multitude of operating systems for maintenance, monitoring voltage, power and battery status.

VI Series: Line-Interactive UPS

A Line- Interactive UPS offers backup function and automatic voltage regulation (AVR). AVR regulates voltage to the appropriate level by decreasing it during surges or swells or increasing it during a sag or burnout. The advantage is a better protection for sensitive IT- and household equipment and avoids damage caused by voltage up- and downturn.

AVR function also benefits the battery lifetime. As long as voltage level is not lower than 70% to 90%, or higher than 110% to 125% AVR will adjust voltage to normal level. I case the voltage drops to a lower or higher level, the UPS will directly switch to battery mode to avoid dropouts and damage of the connected equipment.

Line- Interactive UPS offers USB port (RS-232) to connect to a multitude of operating systems for monitoring voltage, power and battery status.

Line- Interactive UPS are designed for medium cost application with moderate load levels

VFD Series: Offline (Standby) UPS

An Offline or Stand-by is the basic idea of an uninterrupted power supply system. Off- Line UPS models protect against power failures only

This kind of UPS switch to battery power in case the voltage is 10% lower than the typical input voltage range. If voltage range comes back to a normal level the UPS switch back to AC power mode.

The benefit of Off- Line UPS is the simplicity and low costs. Installation is easy and quick.

Off- Line UPS are designed for small budgets and less critical loads with a wider input tolerance.

DC UPS Solution Provides Green and Energy-Saving Power Protection. It has only one-time power consumption during the AC-DC conversion comapred to the AC UPS solution which has DC-AC and AC-DC two-time power conversion.

DC UPSs are designed with widely used input and output standards, usually 12VDC output or 5VDC like USB connector. Typical application is used in telecommunication devices like routers, phones or alarm systems.
Inverter Series
The Inverter/Charger system converts DC power to AC power with amazing transfer efficiency. Appliances such TVs, stereos, notebook computers can be connected for the uninterruptible power.

When encountering utility power failure, this series will transfer from “LINE mode” to “Inverter mode” for acquiring the power from battery supply. With the continuous output and compact design, this series is perfect for any home or SMB (small medium business) environment.
AVR Series: Automatic Voltage Regulator

The AVR system ensures a steady and constant power supply by automatically regulating the voltage at the appropriate level by the decline during the surge or the increase when voltage drops in the power line.

The AVR is designed to prevent damage to electrical equipment sensitive to voltage variations, such as domestic electrical equipment (TV, monitors, game consoles, audio/video equipment, telephony, etc.), prolonging the life of these.
SNMP Cards offer IP Adress and WebInterface for most convinient monitoring. SNMP modules allows remote monitor and manage multiple UPSs from anywhere with internet access. Integrated web access will leverage internet capability of SNMP card to remotely program or shut down UPSs. Equipped with SNMP card, power conditions of all UPSs can be monitored anytime/anywhere even through the UPS units are located in different floors/locations.

EMD (environmental monitoring device) for SNMP cards are connectivity devices to remote monitor temperature and humidity via SNMP card. It provides dry contacts to communicate with compatible devices such as security system or alarm system.
Modbus Card
The PowerWalker Modbus Card is a communication accessory that provides a pair of RJ-45 interface for remote monitoring and controlling of UPSs. It converts standard RS232 signal to RS232 signal with specified address, which allows controlling many UPSs from one computer. You can setup a desired address with jumpers (range 0-255).
AS/400 Cards
AS/400 Cards provide clean dry contacts for remote shutdown and monitoring of a UPS. It is frequently used along with PLCs and signal control panels. Information delivered are UPS failure, Alarm, Main Fail, Bypass, Battery Low, UPS On. Using AS/400 it is possible to shutdown UPS remotely. Solution requires external 12V/24VDC source for a high signal. Pin assignment is available in User's Manual.
